Chapter 2
Moving In
Your First Day
On your move-in day, a staff member will walk you through the property, introduce you to shared spaces, and review your lease or residency agreement. You will receive a copy of the House Rules & Code of Conduct and be asked to sign an acknowledgment that you have read and understood them.
What to Bring
- —Government-issued photo ID
- —Social Security card or documentation
- —Any required program paperwork
- —Prescribed medications (in original labeled containers)
- —Personal clothing and hygiene items
- —Any approved personal electronics
What Is Provided
Each resident is provided a furnished bedroom, access to shared common areas (kitchen, living room, laundry), and basic utilities including water, electricity, and Wi-Fi. Specific furnishings and amenities vary by property — your intake coordinator will walk you through what is available at your location.
Lease & Residency Agreement
All residents sign a residency agreement outlining the terms of their stay, including rent or program fees (if applicable), length of stay, and expectations. Please read this document carefully before signing. A copy will be provided to you for your records.
Chapter 3
Daily Life & Routines
Quiet Hours
Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM daily. During this time, residents are expected to keep noise to a minimum — low television volume, headphones for personal audio, and no loud conversations or door slamming. Please be considerate of neighbors who may work night shifts or have early morning obligations.
Curfew
Curfew times are established per program requirements and will be communicated to you at intake. If you need to request an exception due to work, medical appointments, or other obligations, speak with your case manager in advance. Repeated curfew violations may result in disciplinary action.
Shared Spaces
Common areas — including the kitchen, living room, laundry room, and outdoor spaces — are shared by all residents. Everyone is expected to clean up after themselves immediately. Cleaning schedules for shared spaces may be assigned by staff. Treat shared spaces as you would your own home.
Meals
When meals are provided through the program, residents should arrive on time, treat all dining staff and fellow residents respectfully, and minimize food waste. Personal food stored in the refrigerator must be labeled with your name and the date. Do not consume food belonging to another resident without permission.
Laundry
Laundry facilities are available for resident use. Please clean the lint filter before and after each dryer use, remove your clothing promptly when cycles are complete, and keep the laundry area clean. Respect posted laundry schedules if applicable.
Chapter 4
Support Services
Case Management
Each resident is assigned a case manager who will meet with you regularly to assess your needs, set goals, and connect you with resources. Your case manager is your primary point of contact for questions about your housing, services, and progress. Be honest with your case manager — they are here to help, not to judge.
Goal Planning
Within your first 30 days, you and your case manager will develop an individualized goal plan. This plan will outline your short-term and long-term objectives in areas such as employment, education, financial stability, health, and permanent housing. Your plan will be reviewed and updated regularly.
Resource Navigation
Genesis Valor staff can connect you with community resources including:
• Employment assistance and job training programs • Educational opportunities and GED programs • Mental health and substance use counseling • Medical and dental care referrals • Legal aid and reentry support • Financial literacy and banking assistance • Transportation assistance (subject to availability) • VA benefits navigation (for eligible veterans)
Appointments
Residents are strongly encouraged to attend all scheduled appointments — medical, legal, counseling, employment, and court-related. If you need help scheduling or getting to an appointment, speak with your case manager. Missing important appointments can affect your housing stability and program progress.
Chapter 5
Employment & Personal Development
Employment Expectations
Residents are expected to actively pursue employment, education, or vocational training as part of their path to independence. Your case manager will work with you to identify opportunities that match your skills, background, and goals. Participation requirements vary by program — your intake coordinator will explain what applies to you.
Education & Training
Genesis Valor supports residents who wish to pursue GED completion, vocational certifications, community college enrollment, or other educational opportunities. Staff can help connect you with local programs and financial assistance options.
Financial Literacy
Building financial stability is a key part of long-term independence. Residents are encouraged to open a bank account, establish a budget, and begin saving toward permanent housing. Financial literacy workshops and one-on-one coaching may be available — ask your case manager for details.
Volunteer Opportunities
Giving back to the community is a powerful part of personal growth. Residents are encouraged to explore volunteer opportunities as a way to build skills, expand their network, and contribute positively to the community around them.
Chapter 6
Health & Wellness
Physical Health
Your health matters. Genesis Valor staff can help connect you with primary care providers, dental care, vision care, and specialty services. If you have a medical emergency, call 911 immediately and notify staff as soon as possible.
Mental Health & Counseling
Many residents have experienced significant trauma, loss, or hardship. Mental health support is not a sign of weakness — it is a sign of strength and self-awareness. Genesis Valor can connect you with licensed counselors, therapists, and peer support specialists. If you are in crisis, please tell a staff member immediately.
Substance Use & Recovery
Genesis Valor is committed to supporting residents in recovery. If you are struggling with substance use, please speak with your case manager confidentially. We can connect you with treatment programs, support groups, and recovery resources. Genesis Valor maintains a substance-free environment — please review the Alcohol and Drug Policy in the House Rules.
Medications
Residents who take prescribed medications must keep them in their original labeled containers, use them only as directed, and store them securely. Medications may not be shared with other residents. If you need help managing your medications or obtaining refills, speak with your case manager.
Chapter 7
Community Living
Respecting Your Neighbors
Living in community means sharing space, resources, and daily life with others who are also on their own journey. Treat every resident with the same dignity and respect you would want for yourself. Be patient, be kind, and remember that everyone here is working toward a better future.
Conflict Resolution
Disagreements happen. When they do, residents are expected to handle conflicts calmly and respectfully. If you cannot resolve a disagreement on your own, request staff assistance. Mediation is available when appropriate. Violence, threats, and intimidation are never acceptable and will result in immediate disciplinary action.
Visitors
Visitors are welcome during approved visiting hours. All visitors must follow house rules, remain in approved common areas, and sign in if required. Residents are responsible for the behavior of their guests. Unauthorized overnight guests are not permitted.
Privacy
Every resident has a right to privacy. Do not enter another resident's room without permission. Do not share personal information about fellow residents with others. Do not photograph or post about other residents on social media without their explicit consent.
Chapter 8
Safety & Security
Property Security
Keep your room locked when you are not present. Report any suspicious activity, missing items, or security concerns to staff immediately. Genesis Valor is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings — residents are encouraged to secure valuables.
Fire Safety
Do not tamper with smoke detectors or fire extinguishers. Do not use candles, open flames, or unauthorized space heaters or hot plates. Keep all exits clear at all times. In the event of a fire, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not re-enter the building until cleared by emergency personnel.
Emergency Procedures
In any emergency — fire, medical, criminal activity, or unsafe conditions — call 911 first, then notify staff. Know the location of fire exits, extinguishers, and first aid supplies in your building. Comply with all evacuation instructions from staff and emergency responders.
Zero Tolerance Policies
Genesis Valor maintains zero tolerance for violence, weapons, drug trafficking, and gang-related activity. Violations of these policies may result in immediate termination of residency and referral to law enforcement. Please review the full Violence Policy and Weapons Policy in the House Rules & Code of Conduct.
