Genesis Valor
Safety & Security Policy
Genesis Valor is committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and respectful environment for every resident, staff member, and visitor. These policies exist to protect everyone in our community.
All residents are required to read, understand, and comply with this Safety & Security Policy as a condition of residency. This policy supplements the House Rules & Code of Conduct. In the event of a conflict between documents, the stricter standard applies.
Section 1
Zero Tolerance Policies
Genesis Valor maintains an absolute zero tolerance policy for the following conduct on all properties and in all program activities. Violations of any zero tolerance policy may result in immediate termination of residency and referral to law enforcement, regardless of prior standing or program progress.
Violence & Physical Aggression
Physical violence, assault, battery, or any act of physical aggression toward residents, staff, volunteers, visitors, or any other person on Genesis Valor property is strictly prohibited. This includes pushing, hitting, kicking, spitting, or any other unwanted physical contact intended to harm or intimidate.
Threats & Intimidation
Verbal threats, written threats, gestures, or any conduct intended to intimidate, coerce, or instill fear in another person are prohibited. This includes threats made in person, by phone, by text, or through social media.
Weapons
Possession, storage, or use of any weapon on Genesis Valor property is strictly prohibited. This includes firearms, knives with blades exceeding three inches, brass knuckles, tasers, pepper spray (unless approved in writing by staff), and any object used or intended to be used as a weapon. Residents with lawfully owned firearms must make alternative storage arrangements — weapons may not be brought onto the property under any circumstances.
Drug Trafficking & Distribution
The sale, distribution, manufacture, or trafficking of illegal drugs or controlled substances on Genesis Valor property or in connection with the program is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate termination of residency and referral to law enforcement.
Gang Activity
Gang-related activity, recruitment, intimidation, or the display of gang signs, colors, or symbols on Genesis Valor property is strictly prohibited.
Sexual Misconduct
Sexual harassment, sexual assault, non-consensual sexual contact, and any other form of sexual misconduct are strictly prohibited. All reports of sexual misconduct will be taken seriously, investigated promptly, and referred to law enforcement as appropriate.
Section 2
Alcohol & Substance Use Policy
Genesis Valor maintains a substance-free environment. The following rules apply to all residents at all times on Genesis Valor property.
Prohibited Substances
The use, possession, or storage of illegal drugs, controlled substances, or drug paraphernalia on Genesis Valor property is strictly prohibited. This includes marijuana, regardless of state law, unless the resident holds a valid medical prescription and has received written approval from program staff.
Alcohol
The use or possession of alcohol on Genesis Valor property is prohibited. Residents who arrive at the property visibly intoxicated may be denied entry and subject to disciplinary action.
Prescription Medications
Residents who take prescribed medications must keep them in their original labeled containers, use them only as directed by their prescribing provider, and store them securely in their personal space. Medications may not be shared with other residents under any circumstances. Misuse of prescription medications is subject to disciplinary action.
Drug Testing
Genesis Valor reserves the right to require drug testing as a condition of residency. Residents may be asked to submit to testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance use, as part of program requirements, or at random intervals as specified in the residency agreement. Refusal to submit to required testing may be treated as a positive result.
Recovery Support
Residents who are struggling with substance use are encouraged to speak with their case manager confidentially. Genesis Valor can connect residents with treatment programs, peer support specialists, and recovery resources. Seeking help is a sign of strength — it will not automatically result in disciplinary action.
Section 3
Fire Safety
Prohibited Items
The following items are prohibited on Genesis Valor property due to fire risk: candles and open flames of any kind, incense, space heaters not provided by management, hot plates or cooking appliances in bedrooms, extension cords used as permanent wiring, and any item that produces an open flame or excessive heat.
Smoke Detectors & Fire Extinguishers
Smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are life-safety equipment. Tampering with, disabling, covering, or removing smoke detectors or fire extinguishers is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate termination of residency. If a smoke detector is malfunctioning or chirping, notify staff immediately — do not remove the battery.
Exits & Evacuation Routes
All fire exits, stairwells, and evacuation routes must remain clear and unobstructed at all times. Do not store personal belongings, furniture, or any other items in hallways, stairwells, or in front of exit doors.
Smoking Policy
Smoking — including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and e-cigarettes/vaping devices — is prohibited inside all Genesis Valor buildings. Smoking is only permitted in designated outdoor areas as identified by staff. Residents must properly dispose of cigarette butts in designated receptacles.
In Case of Fire
If you discover a fire or smell smoke: activate the nearest fire alarm pull station, evacuate the building immediately using the nearest safe exit, call 911 once you are safely outside, and notify staff. Do not use elevators during a fire evacuation. Do not re-enter the building until cleared by fire department personnel.
Section 4
Property Security
Keys & Access Credentials
Residents are responsible for the keys, key fobs, or access cards issued to them. Do not duplicate, lend, or transfer keys or access credentials to any other person. Lost or stolen keys must be reported to staff immediately. Residents may be charged for key replacement. Keys must be returned to staff at move-out.
Securing Your Room
Residents are responsible for securing their personal space. Lock your room whenever you leave, even for short periods. Genesis Valor is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings. Residents are encouraged to keep valuables secured and to avoid leaving cash or high-value items in plain sight.
Unauthorized Entry
Entering another resident's room without their explicit permission is prohibited. Do not allow other residents, visitors, or unauthorized individuals to access areas of the property they are not permitted to enter. Do not prop open exterior doors or security doors.
Visitors
All visitors must be approved in advance and must comply with all house rules during their visit. Visitors are only permitted in approved common areas during designated visiting hours. Residents are responsible for the conduct of their guests. Unauthorized overnight guests are not permitted. Visitors who violate house rules may be permanently banned from the property.
Surveillance
Genesis Valor properties may be equipped with security cameras in common areas for the safety of all residents and staff. Cameras are not installed in private areas such as bedrooms or bathrooms. Footage may be reviewed in connection with safety incidents or rule violations.
Reporting Suspicious Activity
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity, unfamiliar individuals on the property, or safety concerns to staff immediately. You may report concerns anonymously. Prompt reporting helps keep the entire community safe.
Section 5
Personal Safety
Conflict Resolution
Disagreements between residents are expected from time to time. Residents are expected to handle conflicts calmly and respectfully. If you are unable to resolve a disagreement on your own, request staff assistance. Do not allow conflicts to escalate to threats or physical confrontation. Mediation is available when appropriate.
Harassment & Discrimination
Harassment, bullying, or discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, disability, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic is strictly prohibited. This includes verbal harassment, written harassment, and harassment conducted through social media or electronic communication.
Privacy of Fellow Residents
Every resident has a right to privacy. Do not photograph, record, or post images or videos of other residents on social media without their explicit written consent. Do not share personal information about fellow residents with others inside or outside the program.
Domestic Violence & Intimate Partner Safety
Genesis Valor is committed to the safety of all residents. If you are experiencing domestic violence, intimate partner violence, or stalking — or if you are aware of another resident who may be in danger — please speak with staff immediately. All reports will be handled with sensitivity and confidentiality. Emergency safety planning is available.
Section 6
Emergency Procedures
Medical Emergencies
In the event of a medical emergency, call 911 immediately. Do not attempt to transport a person experiencing a medical emergency in a personal vehicle unless directed to do so by emergency dispatch. Notify staff as soon as possible after calling 911. First aid supplies are located in common areas — ask staff for the exact location at your property.
Mental Health Crisis
If you or another resident is experiencing a mental health crisis, suicidal ideation, or is in immediate danger of harming themselves or others, call 911 or the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) immediately. Notify staff as soon as it is safe to do so. Genesis Valor staff are trained to assist in connecting residents with crisis resources.
Natural Disasters & Severe Weather
In the event of a tornado warning, severe storm, or other natural disaster, follow staff instructions immediately. Move to interior rooms away from windows. Do not leave the building during active severe weather. Staff will communicate all-clear when it is safe to return to normal activity.
Criminal Activity on Property
If you witness criminal activity on the property — including assault, theft, drug dealing, or any other crime — call 911 immediately if there is an immediate threat to safety. Notify staff as soon as it is safe to do so. Do not attempt to intervene physically in a criminal situation.
Utility Emergencies
If you smell gas, see sparking electrical equipment, or experience a water leak or flooding, notify staff immediately. Do not attempt to repair utility issues yourself. In the event of a gas leak, evacuate the building and call 911 from outside.
Section 7
Reporting & Accountability
How to Report a Safety Concern
Safety concerns may be reported to any Genesis Valor staff member verbally or in writing at any time. For immediate threats to safety, always call 911 first. For non-emergency concerns, you may speak with your case manager, submit a written report to staff, or request an anonymous report form. All safety reports will be taken seriously and investigated promptly.
Retaliation Prohibited
Retaliation against any resident who reports a safety concern, participates in an investigation, or exercises their rights under this policy is strictly prohibited. Any resident who experiences retaliation should report it to staff immediately. Retaliation is itself a serious violation subject to disciplinary action.
Cooperation with Investigations
Residents are expected to cooperate fully and honestly with any safety investigation conducted by Genesis Valor staff or law enforcement. Providing false information in connection with a safety investigation is a violation of this policy and may result in disciplinary action.
Law Enforcement
Genesis Valor cooperates fully with law enforcement. Residents who are subject to active warrants, parole or probation conditions, or court orders must disclose this information to staff and comply with all applicable legal requirements. Conduct that violates the law on Genesis Valor property will be reported to law enforcement.
